Job Summary:

The Small Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and routine corrective repairs on a wide range of small construction tools and equipment. This role is ideal for individuals who are mechanically inclined, enjoy hands-on work, and take pride in troubleshooting and restoring equipment to full working conditions.

The Small Equipment Mechanic will inspect, repair, and maintain items such as pumps, generators, air compressors, grinders, hammer drills, and other small tools essential to field operations. Success in this position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must carry out all essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely. The requirements below outline the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic tests and repairs to identify and resolve functionality issues on small construction equipment and tools (e.g., pumps, generators, air compressors, grinders, hammer drills, and similar equipment).
  • Repair small tools and equipment, including replacing cords, switches, brushes, and other components as needed.
  • Conduct repairs with a focus on maximizing reliability, safety, and equipment performance.
  • Build, assemble, and configure machines or mechanical components according to specifications and requirements.
  • Troubleshoot reported equipment problems and complete repairs in a timely manner.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on machinery, tools, and mechanical systems to ensure optimal operation.
  • Prepare and set up new equipment for deployment in the field.
  • Pull, organize, and distribute equipment orders as needed.
  • Assist other team members within the shop or yard as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor.

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Additional Duties, Responsibilities, and Experience

  • Proven experience as a mechanic with 2–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in construction or equipment repair.
  • Skilled in using a wide range of hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to “do what it takes” to support the team.
  • Strong commitment to following all health and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. as needed.
  • Strong communication skills and close attention to detail.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.

Technical Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred

Work Environment: Indoor /Outdoor Environment
