Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Coordinator to support the Payroll Manager with union payroll administration and compliance for a multi-state construction workforce across Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota. This role assists with monthly union fringe contributions, maintains and updates union and prevailing wage rate tables in the payroll system, and prepares and submits weekly and monthly certified payroll reports. The Payroll Coordinator supports compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), Davis-Bacon and prevailing wage requirements, and multi-union, multi-state regulations. Additional responsibilities include assisting with union audits, validating union wage rates, classifications, and union payroll-related information. The position also assists with the transition from DMPS to ADP Workforce Now and provides backup support for the Payroll Clerk as needed.

Education Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate's degree or certification in Accounting, Business Administration or a related is preferred
Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
- Minimum of 2-4 years of payroll experience required
- Familiarity with construction-specific payroll practices, including union regulations, prevailing wages, and certified payroll preferred.
- Knowledge of Tax and Wage Laws-understanding federal, state, and local laws, as well as wage and hour laws, is vital to ensure compliance and accurate payroll calculations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service mindset
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, with emphasis on Excel- strong Excel skills are necessary for creating and managing spreadsheets, organizing data, and performing calculations.
- Proficiency in Payroll Software- experience with payroll software applications such as ADP Workforce Now is essential to manage payroll data, process payments, and generate reports.
Work Environment: The Payroll Coordinator will work in a collaborative, indoor office setting alongside fellow team members. This role requires regular interaction with colleagues across departments and involves extended periods of computer-based work in a structured and supportive environment.
