Our Mone/Convoy gas power electric plant is looking for an Operations and Maintenance Technician Senior to join the team. This role will perform technical and skilled work in connection with power plant operation. Operate and maintain gas/oil fueled electric generating units composed of turbines, generators, boilers, transformers, pumps, switchyard and related auxiliary equipment. Operate the plant in startup, shutdown, and normal steady state mode. Direct the work of outside operators, support personnel and contractors. Conduct tests, surveys and layout work on plant projects. Perform skilled work in the checking, inspecting, repair, maintenance, installation and construction of plant equipment and structures. Perform and direct others in the troubleshooting of routine problems including: troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical/electronic systems, digital control systems, communication systems, instruments and control systems, computers and computer networks, annunciator systems and recorders. Communicate and coordinate activities affecting the safe and efficient operation of the plant in an often distracting and multitasking environment. Prepare written reports on unit conditions and operations. Provide effective interaction with the market operations and dispatch groups. Demonstrate the ability to work with others at all levels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Demonstrate ethical behavior and strong leadership in safety and health work behaviors and environmental stewardship. Adhere to proper operating practices and procedures and comply with governmental and company environmental, safety and health regulations. Demonstrate a strong work ethic, integrity and willingness to work and communicate effectively with all employees and contractors.
• Assist in monitoring, inspecting, installing, removing, testing, adjusting, calibrating, troubleshooting and repairing electrical, electronic, instrumentation and plant controls systems and components.
• Operate hoists, fork-lift trucks, small tractors, aerial lifts, scissor lifts, mobile cranes and automotive equipment. Inspect scaffold and rigging in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Perform minor mechanical maintenance work including, dismantling, rebuilding, adjusting, aligning, packing and cleaning equipment. Assist with repair of rotating equipment, valves, actuators, piping, etc. Assist licensed contractors completing minor mechanical maintenance activities.
• Properly use machine shop equipment, power and hand tools. Load, unload, move and handle materials, supplies and equipment. Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
• Perform predictive and preventive maintenance (PM) activities by inspecting, monitoring, lubricating, troubleshooting and testing plant equipment. Perform inspections and corrective maintenance activities on plant equipment and components. Conduct tests and inspections to ensure proper operation of the plant during start-up, operation and shutdown of turbines, generators, boilers, pumps, exciters, transformers, switchyard and auxiliary equipment.
• Use work management systems to initiate, retrieve and update work orders, material requests, PMs and time entry, etc. Use various computer applications and software programs to extract data, analyze trends and report status to ensure plant reliability and efficiency. Produce, revise and maintain records, technical reports, procedures and plant drawings as required. Conduct investigations and makes calculations utilizing computer applications and programs, technical manuals and procedures, etc. to ensure reliable and efficient plant operation. Assist in preparing required drawings/layouts on new construction projects, revisions to existing facilities and power plant equipment.
• Direct and assist the work of assigned employees and contractors as required. Conduct job briefings with plant employees and contractors. Follow established plant and company procedures/guidelines when completing work activities. Work under the general direction of plant supervision.
• Respond to emergency situations. Adhere to all SPCC, FRP and emergency response programs. Maintain proficiency in incipient firefighting, first aid and CPR.
• Attend and actively participate in environmental, safety and health, technical, business and leadership training and meetings. Share knowledge and train/mentor other employees. Report/correct any unsafe actions/conditions. Responsible for protecting the safety and health of fellow workers.
• Mange the site inventory as directed by plant supervision. Add/delete inventory items and complete audits.
• Manage the site environmental program as directed by supervision. Complete assigned regulatory tasks and procedures. Assist corporate environmental personnel in preparation of environmental reports.
• Manage the site safety program as directed by supervision. Complete assigned tasks and write, develop and revise safety policies/procedures as requested. Assist supervision and corporate safety personnel in the development and management of new safety policies/procedures.
• Help manage the site NERC compliance program. Complete assigned tasks as directed by supervision. Assist corporate NERC personnel in completing audit tasks & reviewing NERC required procedures/activities.
• Assist supervision in reviewing & approving site invoices as requested.
• Without direct supervision, operate the units (gas turbines and all plant auxiliary systems) within environmental requirements and in accordance with established plant policies & procedures. Must be proficient at unit start-up/shutdown & unit operations under all conditions.
• Monitor and respond to alarms and unusual conditions to ensure proper operation of equipment within established standards. Make regular inspection rounds of plant electrical, instrumentation and mechanical equipment during unit operations to inspect plant equipment for faulty operations or conditions. Report findings to the control room and/or supervision. Make necessary corrections, adjustments and/or repairs to plant systems and equipment.
• Perform equipment checks to ensure safe and efficient operations during the start-up, operation and shutdown of turbines, generators, boilers, pumps, exciters, transformers, switchyard and auxiliary equipment. Operate valves, pumps, electrical disconnects, breakers and controls, etc. from remote locations as needed. Take appropriate actions in the event of abnormal plant equipment conditions. Monitor field controlling, indicating and recording devices, and compare results with established standards and adjust as required based on operating conditions.
• Conduct electrical system interlock and circuit breaker trip checks to determine proper operational performance. Perform control system monitoring using a computer interface terminal. Use elementary, schematics, wiring and control diagrams to locate, troubleshoot and repair control systems involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components. Use electrical and instrumentation test equipment to troubleshoot and calibrate plant equipment. Operate, maintain and repair medium and low voltage circuit breakers and associated equipment.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
• Associate Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Power Plant Technologies or Industrial Engineering Technology.
Licenses and Certifications:
• A physical abilities assessment is required. Must demonstrate ability to climb ladders, work at heights and lift/move up to 50 lbs.
• Must be willing to work outside under cold and hot working conditions.
• Must obtain and maintain all necessary certifications & licenses as required.
• Must possess the appropriate State driver's license.
Experience:
• Three (3) to five (5) years of power plant experience in operations & maintenance (preferably combustion turbine experience). Must have performed the duties and maintained all the qualifications of O&M Plant Technician, or equivalent.
• Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and the Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) tests.
• Relevant on-the-job experience or education above and beyond that described above may be substituted for part of the experience and/or education requirement.

• Ability to work effectively with other employees and contractors. Ability to direct and coordinate the work of plant employees and contractors.
• Ability to perform duties in accordance with company rules, plant operating & maintenance policies and procedures, OSHA regulations and environmental regulations, guidelines and polices.
• Ability to physically and mentally perform required work in an often distracting and multitasking plant environment.
• Possesses knowledge of the principles of operating the plant safely and efficiently during start-up, normal operation and shutdown of boilers, turbines, generators, pumps, exciters, transformers, etc. and their auxiliaries and accessories. Must have the skills and knowledge of plant operations outside of the control room and be able to operate the plant without direct supervision.
• Possesses basic knowledge and skills needed to analyze, interpret, calibrate and adjust plant instruments and controls, and be capable of detecting and making repairs to control systems and understand protective systems.
• Ability to read, interpret and work from prints and specifications.
• Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers, contractors and plant management.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, and lift objects; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections and view computer monitors.
Work Environment
Must be available for overtime and on-call duties as outlined by plant supervision. Must be willing to assist with maintenance and operational activities at other facilities.
