Ohio's Electric Cooperatives is looking for a Instructor, Central Ohio Lineworker Training (COLT) to join the team.  The Instructor, COLT will administer, lead, and train on behalf of the COLT Program sponsored by Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives

Essential Duties and Responsibilities                                                                    

  • Provide direct instruction for all courses included in the COLT apprentice program, while preparing the classroom and organizing all field stations.
  • Assist with coordination, scheduling, and organization of all apprentice training activities, workshop activities, and other educational opportunities offered through COLT.
  • Support apprentice and journeyman level pre-hire and post-hire assessments as needed.
  • Provide written and verbal reports concerning apprentice and journeyman training as needed.
  • Assist with Journeyman Refresher Program instruction in the field and classroom setting.
  • Enroll students placed in the COLT program and ensure setup on appropriate program platforms.
  • Assist with schedules for building, equipment, and vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair.
  • Supports the continuous enhancement of existing course content, curriculum, delivery, and instructional methodologies based upon assessment data and steering committee recommendations.
  • Communicates with cooperative and other electric utility personnel as to assignments, evaluations, grades, fees, student records, etc.
  • Maintain working relationships with utilities, manufacturers’ representatives, and vendors.
  • Coordinate and assist with the purchase of all supplies and tools necessary; ensure the availability of all trucks and other equipment necessary for instruction.
  • Perform all duties of an Instructor, Safety Training and Loss Prevention as needed (see job description).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree in electrical engineering, safety, or other related field preferred.  Technical courses beyond high school preferred in basic electricity, shop, mathematics, English, and public speaking preferred.  Completed a minimum of 576 education contact hours of related technical instruction (RTI) for the electrical lineworker trade and power lineworker apprenticeship program.   

Licenses and Certifications:  

  • First Aid / CPR certification
  • Class A CDL certification
  • Holds a journeyman lineworker Certification, which includes successful completion of an on-the-job power lineworker official apprenticeship program.
  • Must possess or obtain instructor certification in Medic First Aid for First Aid / CPR / AED.  
  • CLCP certification or equivalent preferred.

Experience: 

  • Minimum of years (6) years of diversified line experience in electric utility line construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting including overhead and underground distribution URD.
  • Experience in substations and transmission lines, administrative experience, program planning and supervision preferred.
  • Prior classroom or training experience preferred.
  • Relevant on-the-job experience or education above and beyond that described above may be substituted for part of the experience and/or education requirement.

  • Master knowledge of the technical and operating features of electric apparatus and construction equipment and have the ability to demonstrate procedures and the operation of electrical apparatus and equipment to employees
  • Ability to compose training procedures, memoranda and letters clearly and concisely, complete paperwork and record information for reports and inspections expediently and legibly
  • Basic computer skills and a working knowledge of or ability to learn Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Knowledgeable of appropriate safety procedures and model appropriate safety behaviors

Physical Requirements

Frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, and lift objects; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Must have close visual acuity to analyze data and view computer monitors. Ability to climb wooden poles and perform other physical tasks common to electrical linework.

Work Environment
Work associated with this position is partly indoors in a typical classroom/office setting as well as the indoor training facility.  Exposure to inclement weather is sometimes necessary. Travel is required 10-20% of workdays, mostly in-state including overnight stay.
