Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status. 

Purpose of the Position:

The Technical Services Manager (Engineer) will be the senior leader of all Underground Technical and Engineering functions at Nevada Copper. As the Technical Services Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and providing strategic direction to the technical services department.

Technical functions reporting to the Technical Services Manager include Mine Planning & Scheduling, Engineering, Mine Geology, Geotechnical, Electrical, Surveying and Resource and Reserve Estimation.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Leadership and Management of all Technical Functions, with a focus on:

  • Responsible for driving in collaboration with departments on the NI 43-101 reserve accounting, resource expansion planning and life of mine cash flow projections and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support production and maintenance operations regarding environmental impact, mining cycles, design alternatives, management of change, and workforce involvement during the design stage.
  • Always ensure a strong Safety & Health culture and performance in the Technical Services department.
  • Manage all technical aspects of underground paste back fill.
  • Manage day to day strategic direction of mine engineering, including, long range, life of mine (LOM) planning, geology, hydrogeology, ventilation, and geotechnical functions.
  • Reviews technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems and personally helps in solving difficult technical problems.
  • Overseas mine design, economic evaluation, cost estimating, productivity forecasting, equipment selection and production scheduling on a wide range of studies from pre-scoping to feasibility studies.
  • Responsible for leadership, mentoring and directing technical staff who provide system solutions and support to develop the mine plan and mining strategy to meet organizational goals.
  • Optimize organizational structure to ensure efficiency and alignment in roles and responsibilities.
  • Direct supervision of technical functions and relevant consultants.
  • Incorporates, investigates, and develops best practice in areas of property evaluation, mine engineering design and scheduling, and alternate mining technology.
  • Oversee the development of the mine plan to ensure technical aspects of the mine are optimized.
  • Responsible for ensuring forecasts to project performance against budget in a 0-24 month environment.
  • Ensure long term objectives are captured and prioritized in monthly mine plans.
  • Provide timely advice to Executive Management on Technical Risks and Mitigations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the mine strategy to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operational engineering, short, medium, and long-term mine planning, slope stability analysis, resource model and reserve updates, and cost evaluation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the mine strategy to all internal and external stakeholder.

Knowledge/Education:

The Technical Services Manager should have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with preferably 10 - 15 years’ experience in the mining industry, including at least 5 years in a multi-functional leadership role.
  • Experience with the life of mine planning in a large-scale long-hole stope operation.
  • Knowledge in paste backfill operations.
  • Proficient in underground mine planning and design software.
  • Contract management with implementation of cost controls.
  • An in-depth understanding of operations management including cash flow and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of mining methods, design, planning, costing, development/construction/production, and operations.
  • Knowledge of financial, planning and project management reporting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of MSHA mine safety legislation and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of underground mining practices, policies, procedures and standards.

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license

  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

The incumbent works a minimum of a 40 hour/week schedule and may require weekend or evening work depending on organizational and operational requirements.  Personal Protective Equipment required for this position, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.  All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
