Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Purpose of the Position: 

The successful candidate is responsible for monitoring, collecting, entering dispatch data, and reporting. Other responsibilities will consist of communicating out varied broadcast alerts, incident and emergency communication facilitation and perform other duties as assigned.

Accountability:

The Underground Dispatch Technician reports to the Nevada Copper Chief Mine Engineer.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Monitor and enter into the data system, the following underground activities

  • Capable of initiating and managing the communication of the emergency response function
  • Manages all safety systems including barricades, safe travel routes, blasting, standdowns, supply chain movements and construction activities
  • Ensures accurate information is collected to be used for business and continuous improvements
  • Compare data with source documents (as needed), or re-enter data in verification format to detect errors
  • Records and tracks movements of all personnel underground (high/low grade, windrow, and waste) by loaders and trucks (location and destination) into the computer system
  • Analyzes information and providing operating and support and information to the Mining and Maintenance supervisors
  • Communicates assignments of underground personnel, delegated by the Shift Supervisor
  • Liaison between Mining and Maintenance to ensure gear is not ‘lost in transition’
  • Tracks all equipment downtime and the nature of that downtime
  • Tracks development/production rounds fired and their location
  • Tracks production drills and their location
  • Knowing and relaying the status of each active location as it changes
  • Provides short interval control information to shift supervisors to ensure targets are met
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and integrity of delay code.
  • Maintain the integrity of the data, ensure errors are corrected
  • Ability to direct underground traffic using radio communication, dispatch systems in order execute the plan
  • Ability to recognize and report on variances

Knowledge/ Education:

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
• High School Diploma is required
• Experience with computers and phones are required
• General knowledge of software applications like Excel, Word and Outlook are required
• Proven safety and attendance record required
• Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, team-oriented and work with minimum supervision required
• Satisfactory safety, and performance required
• Must be able to multi-task, and handle high radio, phone, and foot traffic
• Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
  • Walk on uneven ground
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment: 

The incumbent works a rotating 7 on 7 off schedule. Ability to work extended hours as operational needs require to support projects. Personal Protective Equipment required for this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.  All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
