Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status. 

Summary of Position:

The shaft and hoist Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the safe definition, execution, and completion of underground related maintenance activities.

 Essential Functions:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of hoist and shaft equipment such as hoist, conveyors, cages skip, shaft guides, etc.
  • Maintenance duties will include preventative maintenance as well as field and major repairs
  • Providing and maintaining personal hand tools for functionality and cleanliness
  • Safely Perform rigging and slinging of equipment and materials needed for the underground operations.
  • Perform workplace inspections and maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all employees, contractors, and vendors
  • Perform daily and weekly inspections on hoist and shaft and document in logbooks
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on hoist and cages skips
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts
  • Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines
  • Troubleshoot and repair breakdowns quickly and efficiently
  • Able to complete daily tasks and provide reports
  • Establishing work relationships necessary to efficiently execute the daily maintenance activities through his/her assigned zone
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to working safely as an advocate and leader of a safe work culture for all employees with a specific focus on lock-out procedures and avoiding hand related injuries
  • Actively participate in safety meetings
  • Enters required parts in WO and requisition
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Training:

  • A minimum of three (3) years underground mobile maintenance in a mining environment preferred.
  • Shaft and hoist experience, preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Willingness to learn and ability to repair all hoist and equipment.
  • Possess strong knowledge/skills in hoist and shaft maintenance repair of all underground equipment required.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in an underground mining environment required.
  • Ability to communicate well with team members, asking necessary questions to ensure instructions are clear to all. Keep an open mind to ideas from other team members.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate with the ability of communicating with others be it verbal, written, handheld radios, mine radios, cap lamp signals or any other type of communication necessary for the safe completion of the task. 

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, there will be times the employee will be working in an underground environment and may work in extreme cold/hot conditions, occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, appropriate hearing protection may be needed and required.

Health and Safety:

Expected to always wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while in a production environment (hard hat, safety belt, self-rescue respiratory device, steel toed boats/metatarsal protection, reflective visible clothing) or as required for a specific job duty. Ensure that all safety procedures and regulatory guidelines are followed. Support the site safety culture through leadership and regularly engaging with and holding the workforce accountable for safe work practices. Participate in health and safety meetings and risk reviews as required.

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms
  • Walk on uneven ground
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

The incumbent is expected to work on either a rotating day shift or a rotating day/night shift schedule, with some call-outs possible for infrequent occurrences. The incumbent is responsible for supplying and maintaining his/her own tools. Personal Protective Equipment required and to be worn for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
