Austin Materials is seeking a qualified Quality Control Field Technician. This position will reside primarily in the San Antonio, Texas area.
Job purpose
The Quality Control Field Technician Level 1B will be responsible for ensuring that our product meets or exceeds quality standards as defined by TxDOT and various local entities while maintaining a safety-first attitude. This position requires strict adherence with all company standards, policies, and procedures, as well as compliance with all federal and state regulations, including OSHA, TCEQ, etc.
Duties and responsibilities
- Ensure product meets or exceeds quality control specifications.
- Responsible for all aspects required of a Level 1B Roadway Specialist.
- Performs the necessary testing required for our asphalt paving operations.
- Works with foreman, superintendents, and direct supervisor to address quality related issues.
- Ability to complete necessary paperwork on time and correctly.
- Must follow company safety rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D (Educational experience can be waived in lieu of work experience). 3 Years’ experience in asphalt paving industry preferred. Current Level 1B Roadway Specialist Certification preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office products and some ability to adapt to other computer software.
Working Conditions
This position is field based and requires travel to various jobsites. On site work consists of activities which includes, but is not limited to, exposure to loud machinery, traffic, dust, inclement weather, and changes in temperature. The job will be based largely in the San Antonio area, however, occasional travel to Austin and surrounding areas will be required. Required safety equipment will be issued and policies and procedures focused on safety will apply.
Physical/Mental Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing at times. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 75 pounds. Must be able to safely maintain 3 points of contact when applicable. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, employees and managers. Effective conflict resolution abilities. Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. Ability to read, write and do mathematics.
